# More Than a Resource. A Reminder.
Not Behind started with a simple realisation:
There are so many young people walking around believing they're falling behind.
Behind at school.
Behind their friends.
Behind expectations.
Behind where they think they should be.
I know that feeling because I lived it.
For years I thought I just needed to try harder. Be more organised. Be more focused. Be more like everyone else.
What I eventually discovered was that I wasn't behind at all.
I was simply trying to follow a path that wasn't designed for the way my brain worked.
That realisation changed everything.
Now, through my work in a New Zealand primary school and my own lived experience, I see young people facing those same struggles every day. Bright, creative, capable kids who often don't see those qualities in themselves because they're too busy comparing themselves to everyone else.
That's why Not Behind exists.
Not to tell young people who they are.
Not to label them.
Not to fix them.
But to help them understand themselves.
Our Plan
The goal is simple:
To create practical, relatable and genuinely useful resources for New Zealand tweens, teenagers and the adults who support them.
Resources that feel real.
Resources that make sense.
Resources that don't talk down to young people.
Resources that remind them that there is no single timeline for success.
Over time, Not Behind will grow into a collection of:
• Workbooks and journals
• Printable tools and templates
• Real-life strategies
• Encouraging content and stories
• Resources for parents, whānau and educators
• A supportive online community
Everything we create will be guided by one question:
"Will this help a young person feel more understood, capable and hopeful?"
If the answer is yes, we're on the right path.
What We Believe
We believe progress looks different for everyone.
We believe success isn't measured by how closely you match somebody else's timeline.
We believe young people deserve honesty, encouragement and practical support.
We believe strengths and struggles can exist side by side.
And most importantly:
We believe nobody is behind.
Not in life.
Not in learning.
Not in becoming who they're meant to be.
This Is Just The Beginning
Not Behind is still growing.
The resources, ideas and community are all being built step by step.
But every journey starts somewhere.
